From being a 20-year-old teenager to entering your depression Barbie era to the emergence of #adulting, the consensus is that existing as a young woman is hard. The Girl Talk girlies discuss this phenomenon and how outside factors, such as the pandemic, have affected their ability to “grow up.” And of course, a small Taylor Swift discussion takes place as well…it is our 13th episode after all.

Fictional Boyfriend Showdown

Technically no one asked us to rehash drama about our favorite fictional characters…but we did it anyway. In this episode, Nala and Emily put on their boxing gloves and attempted to defend the fictional boyfriends that live on our screens (and in our heads). While focusing primarily on The Summer I Turned Pretty and Gilmore Girls love triangles, we somehow stumbled upon a plethora of other discussions such as a dissection of our favorite girlbosses: Emily Gilmore and Kirk Gleason. 

Troy and Gabriella Wish They Were Us

Whether they’re bopping to the top or fantasizing about being rich enough to buy a home in Disney’s Golden Oak, this week’s episode proves Em & Nala are never beating the Disney adult allegations. Other discussions include our 1989 vault track predictions and Nala’s incredible One Direction concert storytime that Emily will remain jealous of for the rest of time.

In this episode (of questionable audio quality), Emily is joined by three of her besties to discuss an odd assortment of topics. From singing karaoke to save your life to the Duolingo bird’s recent appearance on Cornelia Street, this episode is a bit more chaotic than most. On a very slightly more serious note, the group also discusses plot predictions for the upcoming Barbie movie and the atrocity that we have dubbed the UConn housing hunger games.

Emily’s relationship with reading is…complicated. Follow along as she recaps her messy reading journey and explains how reading has ultimately shaped her life. She then reviews and discusses her feelings on the upcoming adaptation of her most recent read, Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Other topics include the horrificness of Outer Banks Season 3 and the trials and tribulations of being a Hunger Games kid.

February is Consumerism’s Favorite Month

Listen to Em spiral as she realizes consumerism is everywhere and everything relates back to capitalism. If I Can’t Eat the Rich I Would Like to Make Fun of Them

In this chaotic and slightly inaccurate solo episode, Emily explores the idea of social issues being portrayed in film and tv. More specifically, she rants about the emergence of rich people satire and why they’re simultaneously amazing and terrible. Should we eat the rich, let them destroy themselves, or just look away?
